Newham Business Improvement District (BID) launched in September 2013 and is due to complete its first term this summer.
Since it began, the scheme has aimed to support and benefit local businesses with a range of initiatives from improving road access and signage to increasing security and identifying cost cutting measures for Newham-based companies.
Of the BID successes so far, highlights include installing 16 new signs throughout our riverside business district, making it easier for visitors to find their way around Newham; road resurfacing; and ongoing maintenance of the area including regular monitoring of litter collections and fly tipping.
As well as improving the look of the area, we have been keen to increase security for the many businesses trading here.
So far we have installed 27 CCTV cameras as well as vehicle recognition cameras and infrared zoom lens cameras to provide facial recognition in poor lighting.
It is clear that this initiative is already helping to deter and detect crime as well as assist with insurance claims for local businesses and we have plans to install three more cameras in the future.

With over 100 businesses and more than 1,000 employees, Newham is home to a diverse range of companies from local independent traders to large multi-national corporations.
And that mix of businesses is what makes Newham unique. This is a destination that can offer a variety of services with a dedicated, knowledgeable team of people on hand to welcome new and old customers alike.

Promoting these businesses and the work they do has also been hugely important as part of the first BID term.
To showcase what we have to offer here at Newham, a new website has been launched alongside a more focused marketing and advertising campaign which is helping to introduce more people to the services on offer at the city business district.

We have achieved a lot so far but there is so much more we want to do. And this summer, Newham businesses will once again be given the chance to decide their future, with exciting new plans to discuss and decide as well as the vote for BID 2.
