A mortgage advisor is offering his services for free to Cornwall’s public services and military personnel.
James Savage, owner of Newquay-based Cheap Mortgage Quotes, is offering its range of financial advice and mortgage broker services at no cost to anyone currently employed by either the NHS, police, fire service, or armed forces.
The financial advisor of 10 years told Cornwall Live: “Service personnel do such a huge amount and make such huge sacrifices for us all and I would jump at the chance to give something back.
“That’s why I am more than happy to offer free advice and consultations to them. It’s independent and impartial advice. It’s not a loaded offer, there is no caveat and there are no strings attached.”
It’s a cause that is close to his heart. “My brother-in-law serves in the RAF and has done tours of Iraq, Bazra, and Baghdad,” he said, “I also have many friends that are NHS employees.”

Mr Savage and his partner Naomi have recently benefited from the hard work and vital service provided by NHS staff in Cornwall. He said: “My partner has recently been really ill. We have spent many hours in A&E and the staff were always on hand at all hours of the day and through the night.
“They are always there in a time of need and also seem grateful to help, always smiling. The staff are so grounded, in every sense of the word, give so much of their time and go above and beyond what is asked of them.
“I just want to get the word out there that they can access this service free of charge. I work evenings and weekends so I can work around their shift patterns and come to them.
“What I’m saying is, ‘here’s my time in exchange for what they do for us’. I believe more businesses should work like that, it makes a lot of sense to me.”
On a similar note, the Cornish Catering Co on Malpas Road in Truro has been offering free drinks to passers-by working in the public services.
Owner Clare Austin said: “Recently a friend of mine was involved in a traffic collision and I was blown away by how incredible the emergency services were.
“The police, nurses and doctors were just amazing and some had been up all night without a break. When a gentlemen fell in the Malpas river last year we took all the rescue team down a coffee and a scotch egg and they seemed genuinely delighted to have refreshments.
“I know it isn’t much, but I wanted to do something for the people who devote their lives to helping others.”
